A thing of beauty!
Is "A thing of beauty a joy forever" on social media sites?
Keats began his poem with the same line but see how today it has been surrounded by the blanket of question around it. Who would have imagined such a remarkable piece of literature be in this condition? Poem which spreads the message of joy, appreciating the ones who are far and near and has bestowed you with their memories somehow in their lifetime. Poem which certainly covers all the doom of darkness. Poem which redefined the darkness in different versions except for being just black.
This poem taught people the importance of appreciation, belongingness and hope.
A thing of beauty is a joy forever on social media, sounds like facebook, instagram and whatsapp loaded with texts and preserved moments of happiness. Dawn of the internet melted down the miles of distance and unloaded the piles of work. Social media was another gift from the internet. Facebook endeavours the message of being together. Instagrams tell us to share photos, videos and fun moments with friends. WhatsApp says "It's between you". WhatsApp alone was used by 2 million people across the world in 2020.
People are busy capturing photos of mother's day, Birthdays, marriage proposals and events and not really working on any of these. It is our choice of course what to share or not. Who will be bothered if you are celebrating with 50 others on Facebook. Who will have an ounce of delight with you being enjoying with your friends? Of Course nobody but you. But with time somehow the bond of friendship becomes weak and standards come down when it comes to caring and being for each other, not just being in photos but in life problems and we still are busy in keeping aesthetic profiles on social media and becoming nostalgic about past days without having an ounce of effort today. There lies a great problem then with the "thing of beauty" on social media.
Marriage functions celebrated, events flourished with theme parties and costumes. Not a problem. But with each year passing both became a victim of each other's mental and verbal abuse because of no real effort in real talks. People kept glorifying their toxic marriage and cheesy talks on social media. Functions were somehow representing how much they are going to be in future but they didn't realise it was the daily efforts which they have to make everyday to live a caption of happily ever after on social media.
Isn't it weird for all of us that now we have reached a place where to make people realise that we owe them our love, a candid picture is necessary? Isn't it a matter of discussion to just reflect how people who are living their own self in the captions of their post are actually lacking
Self worth? Will it still be a thing of joy as Keats remarked? No it will be a chunk of toxicity, a trash of people's ideas which have become narrow and are not really transcending love as said by Keats.
The things like childhood memories for which we are really craving for in our posts, don't you think it really comes from a real talk with your parents and grandparents. No filters of nostalgia can produce the effect of memory transition and reflection. The captions however may be flooded with the line that this is the only joy that you miss being now as an adult. Again a thing of beauty doesn't last forever for joy.
It is our choices and the right to have choices must be preserved. Social media won't affect you so much if you are mature. But in cases of human love and affection stop being a cause of affliction by just making your representation of love narrow. You are better than those things of joy which are temporary.
